The inaugral Ted Alexander Memorial Handicap was a lot of fun and a great way to remember our mate. It was great to see some of Ted and Andrea's family out at the race, as well as Ted's racing friends, some of whole haven't raced for a while but signed up to race for Ted. Also thanks to Andrea for the volunteer's cookies!
Message from Andrea Alexander:
' I just want to say thanks to Hamilton Wheelers for hosting Ted’s inaugural road race at Elimbah. He would have been extremely embarrassed about having a race in his name. However as a family we were extremely proud. Thanks to all the people who completed the race especially those who had not raced for some time. I would also like to thank Hamilton Wheelers for all the support I have personally received over the last nine months – if you are a member of Hamilton you are not just a member of a cycling club you are a member of a family.’

2019 Battle of the Aarses Results and Report
Message from Club President Wayne Wilson:
What a great day the Battle of the Aarses was!!
Some 180 riders from both clubs competing, in good friendly rivalry, across 5 grades.
Congratulations to all riders and volunteers who made the day a really enjoyable one and in particular… wearing a club kit set the day off and made recognizing team mates in the bunch soooo much easier. We are on a winner with this move..
Report from Club Captain Mick Cole:
Well, it was another perfect SE Queensland morning for racing and it was great to see so many riders from Uni and Hamilton turn out to support the event.
Firstly, I want to thank the Uni riders, officials, volunteers and club executives for the various roles that you all played in pulling this event together and for the fast and competitive racing. On this occasion, you had our measure, but we’ll regroup and come out swinging again next time.
Secondly, to the Hamilton club members, thank you for coming out in such numbers to support the club and the event. I know I’ve said this to many of you already, but it’s these types of events that remind me why I love this club.
Lastly, thanks to all those who worked tirelessly in the background to organize this event. For many of us, the hardest part of the morning was finding a club jersey to borrow, but a small group of dedicated Uni and Hamilton members have worked behind the scenes, dealing with nominations, handicaps, and organizing volunteers, Commissaires, First Aid (thanks A1 First Aid), Coffee (Thank you Skye), and the BBQ (thanks Willow and BBQ Bob!).
Thanks again to all involved and I look forward to adding a HWCC shield to that trophy in 2020.

SAFETY MESSAGE: Please be mindful of other riders on the course.
- Don't do a warmdown lap after your race - pull into the marshalling areas straight away.
- Don't do a warmup lap on the course when riders are still racing(!)
- When asked to go to the marhsalling area, look for riders on the course and when it's clear, move quickly to the marshalling areas staying to the inside (RHS) of the track (or ride on the path and cross over)
- After your race pull into the marshalling area straight away - don't do another lap
- Always pass slower grades on the outside (left hand side of the track), then stay on the left hand side of the track until the whole of your bunch is clear.
- If you are dropped stay on the INSIDE of the track

Note from the Chief Commissaire:
Riders in the B1 group overtook the C1 bunch on the inside of the track. This coud have caused a serious incident, and unduly affected the outcome of the race, and also caused the primes to be delayed. Please listen the instructions given at each and every race briefing - riders are only to pass on the outside (left hand side) of slower groups. This is especially important at Lakeside where we have 5 or 6 grades sharing the track simultaneously. The track is plenty wide enough to do this safety if riders follow instructions. If this occurs again the entire bunch will be disqualified.
PLease read our rider's safety briefing.
