Another aggressive A grade race in typically windy conditions. We've seen over the last 3 rounds the strong

dozen or so riders pushing hard to get away. Early on it was David Crosswell and James Hepburn having a

go, soon joined by Nicolas Dougall and Jordan Kerby. This soon formed into a very strong group consisting of

James Thompson (BCRI), Jordan Kerby (HPRW), Nick Shultz (SunnyCoast), Kyle Bateson (Cats) and the

neo-roadie/triathlete Dan Wilson (HPRW). I'm pretty sure Sam Wood (Balmoral) got across as well.

The hard work was to no avail as at the 18 minute mark it was back together with Kerby just off the front

trying to stir things up.

The next break around minute 20 was the unmistakable helmet of Peter Garrone (UNI) with Nicolas Dougall

and Nick Shultz, then I think it was Coyote rider Warren Forbes I saw join them.

Back together as the whistle went for the prime, with Sam Volkers, Hadleigh Milligan and Corey Edmund

driving it. Nick Shultz found some more gas in the tank, or maybe he's got a hidden nitrous bottle in the

seattube as he got a massive gap in half a lap to take the prime.

There was one last break of Garrone, James Thompson and Dane Macky at 31 minutes before coming

together for the sprint.

B Grade - 45 riders

1 Alex Grunke (UNI) 15 points, 5 sprints plus 1st last lap

2 John Murazak (HPRW) 6 sprints = 12 points

3 Mark Hastie (MBCC) 1 sprint + 2nd last lap = 6 points

John Murazak went straight away getting the first 2 laps solo. MBCC riders Mark Hastie, Geoff Cree and

Simon Meyer were among the strong riders scoring in the next 8 laps, before John Murazak went again.

With a bit of encouragement from his teammates on the sideline he scored another 3 laps solo giving him

a clear lead on 10 points (2 points per sprint) ahead of Cree on 4 points. Shane Spence (TRC) and Luke

Stenner (Lifecycle) got closer with 2 sprints each, but then round 2 fourth placer Alex Grunke (Uni) went

ballistic with a solo attack scoring himself 5 laps in a row including staying away on the last lap. A very

hard thing to do indeed. Mark Hastie, Andrew Mathiesen (pic below) got 2nd and 3rd, with MBCC stalwarts

Paul Robertson and Simon Meyer 4th and 5th.

Darren Croad (HPRW) and David Shelberg (Balmoral) went on an early break getting out to 10 seconds,

then it was Darren on his own. When the whistle for the prime came, it was all together. A nice sprint

by Dave Shelberg put him several lengths ahead of fast finishing Greg Sakzewski and Ian Collins.

Shannon Duggan went from the gun getting the first two laps solo into a very stiff headwind on the straight.

Bryn Abad got the third and from there was some very entertaining and hard fought sprints, the heat and wind

meant it took a while to recover after making big efforts. Darren Croad and Scott Mitchell both got two sprints

each with the rest shared evenly among other riders. Both Bryn and Shannon recovered well to get another one

in the bag before it came together for a big bunchy. Dave Shelberg came first, but Bryn and Shannon finished

second and third lifting them well clear on points.

The A grade race was aggressive with lots of breaks going for a lap or 3. A strong mid race break of Nick Woods

(Balmoral), Sam Volkers (FFAST), Nicolas Dougall (FFAST) and triathlete Dan Wilson (HPRW) looked good for 5

or 6 laps and then Dutchman Jasper Ockeleon bridged across, and they got out to 15 seconds just before Sam

took the prime, but they were slowly reeled in. Nick Woods and Dan Wilson went again, but it was all together

again after 30 minutes. Nick Woods and Matt Williams got away again for a while, as did Peter Garonne, but

nothing was going to stop the sprinters setting it up, with twilight veterans Mal Rudolph and Peter Thompson

finishing them off.
