  • All competitors must attend the Commissaire briefing immediately prior to their event. Any rider who does not attend will not be allowed to race in the event.

  • Race prizemoney (where applicable) will be paid in cash on the day.
  • HWCC races at Lakeside call for a separate “Lakeside licence” fee of $10 each day – these are still to be paid by cash on the day. (Yearly Lakeside licences are still available at $55). We will endeavor to have an EFT option but cannot guarantee it so please bring $10 cash. Forms can be downloaded from the website and completed beforehand to minimise contact and save time.
  • Members are required to perform volunteer duty at one event each year. On this day, the member should not plan to also participate in a race. You need to nominate at which event you would like to volunteer on the website calendar.  Volunteers will receive one Race pass, an item of HWCC kit (this year socks) and entry in the draw at the Presentation day function to win a free CA licence for the following year. Members are allowed to enter 3 HWCC events if they have not nominated a volunteer date. After that they will be denied entry until they do nominate a date online on the volunteer calendar.
  • All Under 17 competitors must complete a “roll-out” prior to racing.

During the Covid 19 restriction period…

  • Riders must observe social distancing in and around the clubhouse.
  • Riders must ensure that any non-competitors, i.e. parents/friends with them are entered on the Covid Tracking form at registration at every meeting.
  • The “pigeon hole” storage facility in the HWCC clubhouse at Nundah will be made available for riders to leave valuables during a race, but are requested to observe social distancing when using them.

Great Sadness for Hamilton Members

It is with great sadness that we pass on the news of the death of 3 of our members and former members.

Carolyn Lister

The club has received awful news that Carolyn Lister passed away this morning after being hit by a vehicle on her morning commute, in the vicinity of her workplace at the RBWH.

Carolyn was a very strong rider who recently took up racing with us. She was excited to win her first race late last year. Carolyn was a keen traveler, having cycled in many places around the world. The club wishes to pass on our deepest condolences to her husband John.

Scott Irvine

Scott Irvine aged 34 years. Scott was a popular member of Hamilton Wheelers from 2015 to 2017. During this time he won the Bill Osbourne Memorial, The Most Improved Rider in the club and the Aggregate Points score trophies. He was a keen and enthusiastic participant who always raced with great vigour and commitment.

If anyone needs assistance in these peculiar times don’t hesitate in contacting https://www.beyondblue.org.au/about-us/contact-us

 Ray Meredith

One of Hamilton’s greatest ever riders Ray Meredith passed away aged 82 years on June 9th. Ray’s list of Hamilton victories is way too long to list as are his achievements at State and National level.

Desperately close to both Commonwealth Games and Olympic selection on 2 occasions, Ray will be remembered for his aggressive and uncompromising style of racing and training. It was well known that when you rode in his group you would work hard, very hard, then most likely be beaten by him at the end of the day. A former member of the now defunct Sandgate Cycling Club, Ray became a stalwart of Hamilton Wheelers and was recognized at the Century Dinner of the club in 2008. A great rider and Hamilton member, Ray was celebrated at a private service.

Vale Darryl Bowes

Darryl Bowes, past member of Hamilton Wheelers and father of James Bowes a current member, sadly passed away Friday 19th June.
Darryl was a jovial and keen masters rider who still kept up with happenings by watching James race and saying hello at many Hamilton races.
Vale Darryl.

Vale Lindsay Green

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of one of Hamilton’s most respected men. Lindsay Green passed away Tuesday 26th May at his care facility in Caboolture. Thankfully he was active and still enjoying life until a few weeks ago, though missing his favourite biking sessions. He would turn 88 on May 31st.

Lindsay has been a Hamilton member since he moved from South Australia many years ago. A noted competitor, Audax hero and Paris-Brest-Paris finisher, Hamilton Club Champion, and above all a true gentleman, he will be well remembered and well and truly missed.

Lindsay will be sadly missed by his wife Connie, children Tony and Jennifer, grandchildren Lauren and Grace and all his cycling buddies throughout the world.

QRTS Round 4 Report

Race report from DS Phil Jones:

Round 4 at Murarrie was the final event for 2019.
The first race of the day a 25 minute +2 laps points race with points every 2 laps,5 3 2 1 points on the line. Then the big race 1 hour + 2 laps. The Hamilton Team had a great first race with a good win by Zach Larson supported by Hanes Venter, Mitch Yard, Peter Odsson, Dave Wadesworth and Ky Parkinson. Zach got in a small break at half distance and took 1st place in the sprint that gave him 5pts that group got caught back and few more moves went and came back, With 3 laps to go The Hamilton riders forced a small gap on the field with Hannes and young Mitch Yarde, this being his first Elite race, setting up a good gap for Zach to hold on for first over the line and taking the double points at the end that gave us our first win.

The main race of the day was a bit mixed for Hamilton we missed the main break of the day and 4 of the team finished in the main pack.

Thanks to all the riders and helpers especially mechanic Bill Tape for all their help!

Hat Trick of National Road Race Titles for Phil Kesby

The Cycling Australia Masters National Road Championships were held in McLaren Vale, South Australia on 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th October.

The Race Director had set a challenging 19km loop for the road race, and included the brutal 2.6km climb of Penny’s Hill, with an average gradient of 7.5% and sections up to 12%. It is located on the range just north of the famous Old Willunga Hill.

A cloudy day and 20km per hour block headwind on the Penny’s Hill section was bound to play a significant part in the day’s results.

The Masters 6 Road Race was three loops of the 19km course, 56km and 1,065 metres of climbing. A triangular course layout with a punchy Range Road section followed by a super-fast downhill and then a false flat to Penny’s Hill ensured a very tough race where fitness, strength and tactics would all be crucial.

Phil said, “As National Champion for the past two years, my coach warned me that I would be a marked man,” and so it was. Attacks started almost from the gun with Brisbane rider Adrian Land, winner of Brisbane Granfondo, going up the road. Teams from Carnegie Caulfield and Norwood continued the attacks, and after the second climb, a lead group of eight competed for the title on the final climb. “A solid pace on the climb and constant attacks meant holding the nerve until the right moment and, with one kilometre to go, I made my move on the final 11% pinch.”

Phil joined the Hamilton Wheelers in 2015, which is also the first year he ever raced. We covered his previous two wins and the compliments he received last year from a fellow competitor about his sportsmanship. It’s an excellent reminder to all of us that you can achieve whatever you want if you put your mind to it. “National Champion three years in a row leaves me happy and proud. I am grateful to my team and for a life that allows me to cycle around the world, meeting amazing people. They all inspire me.”

Congratulations Phil, bring on 2020!

Stage 3
This stage was based out at Yangan 118 kms of undulating exposed open and windy terrain the race split into 3 distinct groups inside the first 25kms, Max Neumann having his first ride for the Team in 2019 got in the first significant break of the day after 27kms and stayed in the front group all day and got into a few small break away moves but got pulled back he eventually ended up in the final selection of the day consisting of 11 riders and finished 9th in  the finish, the stage was won by Jordon Kerby riding for Cobra9 and a Hamilton Wheelers member.
