Walter Betten - The Ride Around Australia

Walter Betten (father of Samuel Betten – professional triathlete) is to ride his bicycle around

Australia with the assistance of his wife Deanne who will be driving the support vehicle with

family and friends keeping her company on various sectors of the trip. A trial ride from Brisbane

to Rockhampton was completed in September 2012 thus providing plenty of material to establish our

website www.bettenonbike.com.au and to understand what needs to be done to make the ride enjoyable

and successful.

Because of a recent loss of a close friend as a result of Alzheimer’s disease Walter and Deanne

have decided to dedicate the ride to their friend by raising funds for Alzheimer’s Australia

Dementia Research Foundation.

While the ride is happening to satisfy an itch, to live a dream, the fact that there is now an

ulterior motive of raising money for Alzheimer’s makes the trip now become much more meaningful

and full of purpose.

Daily reports will be posted on our website in order to share our experiences with family,

friends and anyone who is interested in following our travels or who wishes to join in for a

section of the ride. Please go to our website to see details of the itinerary.

Please donate online at www.gofundraise.com.au/page/bettenonbike or go to our website to see other

ways you can support this cause. All donations are tax deductable.

Our goal is to raise $24,700 (Two Dollars for each kilometre of the 12,350 kilometres to be cycled

by Walter)

ON BEHALF OF ALZHEIMER’S AUSTRALIA DEMENTIA RESEARCH FOUNDATION WE WARMLY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Walter & Deanne Betten
