About our Club
The Hamilton Pine Rivers Wheelers Cycling Club (HPRW) was formed in 1908 when it was known as Hamilton Amateur Wheelers and has conducted competition cycle races since then.
We are a club based in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Our road racing events are held on most weekends from March through October (Winter Series), with criterium circuit racing on Saturday mornings during the rest of the year (Summer Series).
We cater for riders of all abilities and ages through Handicap and Graded races. We are pleased to have amongst our members, Peter Gumbley, who was a 2008 Masters Track World Champion. Visiting riders are welcome and we are always happy for new members to join our ranks. The Club is affiliated with Cycling Australia and this allows us to provide racing licences for all cycling events throughout Australia.
In winter we conduct racing in all disciplines - Road racing, Criteriums and Time Trials. Our Time trial Teams have always performed with success at State level particularly in the Women and Mens Masters (over 35 years) divisions. We usually promote one "Open" event in the season and this is the well supported "Anzac 25" for Elite male riders.
Through the warmer months our racing is restricted to graded Criterium events on Saturday mornings on closed courses such as the one at Nundah and Lakeside Park at Kurwongbah. We also conduct a Five event Twilight series on Wednesday afternoons at the Nundah track. These shorter events are very popular and fields of up to sixty riders are not uncommon.
